How do i get last created list item in a visual webpart

Hi thanx for ur suggestion but i got en error in last line

list.GetItems(query).Cast<SPListItem>().FirstOrDefault();

i couldn,t get this Cast after query and how do i get all my fields display in this list item . i have to create a webpart which displays last created subsite and i have a list which has all information about subsite name,who created and when created so i need to get information from that list to dislay last created subsite.
