How to get semanticzoom from gridviewitem from within?

I've got a semanticzoom with a gridviewitem inside a gridview within.  I can get the gridview from clicking the gridviewitem just fine. But how do I go a step further and get the semanticzoom from the gridview? Getting the parent of the gridview doesn't do it.
