If you simply renamed the service reference in Solution Explorer then it probably wouldn't have rippled down to the generated code. You need to use Update Service Reference to force a refresh. If it still does not appear then use Show All Files in Solution Explorer to show all files and then browse down through the .svcmap to the reference.cs file where the actual code is to see what it called it.
Web references and service references are different beasts. Web references are generally used for older ASMX services while service references are used for WCF services.
