window.close() not working in Chrome and Mozilla

hello techies,

I used the below code on one of my Sharepoint webpart page :

setTimeout(function(){ window.close(); }, 3000);

This script works fine on IE but not working on Moziila and Chrome.

Any help will be appreciated
