how to render SSRS report to Excel with .xlsx extension instead of .xls

Hello,

In SSRS version 2012 you can export to the new XLSX format, see What's New (Reporting Services) => Excel Renderer for Microsoft Excel 2007-2010 and Microsoft Excel 2003

For older SSRS versions you would need a customer export extentsion.
