Templates not showing metadata fields

Hi

I've created a blank word file in office and uploaded to the CT 'CT Test'. Then I use the Edit Template link wich opens up the template in word. I then attemt to add columns from the Quick Parts, though I have available the local columns (Abract, author....) all the server columns are missing.

I know that CT test contains the columns as i can apply them to the list.

I can get this to work only if I create a document in a library, add the server columns, save locally and then upload to template section of CT. Is this how its meant to work ?
