Joe is a dick about it, he could be nicer. My guess is years of the same kind of thing eventually wears you down, and you get grumpy. This doesn't really change the fact that he is right though. You should code in ANSI standards as much as possible. When you ask a question you should provide DDL/DML and well formatted test data (I prefer table variables where possible, others prefer temp tables - either one is fine as its fairly easy to switch between them anyway).
The point is, you're asking us for help, make it as easy as possible for us to help you.
